This notice is to inform you that the full port seat removal tools for 2-6” regulators are being updated to a socket-style design exclusively.
Kimray has been offering two configurations for seat removal tools. PNs 272SW – 275SW are T-Handle tools, and PNs 6945SW – 6948SW are socket-style tools. Effective with this product notice, PNs 6945SW – 6948SW will be discontinued, and the design for PNs 272SW – 275SW will be updated to a socket-style design.
We have made this change for 3 primary reasons:
- The full port removable seat in 2-6” regulators will be undergoing design
modifications in 2025 to optimize flow capacity (more information to come on this). With these changes, the current tools will not be able to engage with the internal “fin” features on the removable seat.
- This consolidation will simplify our tool offering while maintaining the socket-style design. The tools will have a male 1-1/4 hex that can be used to connect to tooling that has a 1-1/4 hex socket attached at the end.
- The socket-style design offers more flexibility and allows for targeting of torque specifications during the assembly process when coupled with calibrated torque application devices.
The updated seat removal tools will be required any time a full port seat needs to be removed and/or installed.
The table below highlights the affected models offered in line sizes ranging from 2” – 6” that fall within the Regulator and Low-Pressure Control Valve families.
The old versions of 272SW – 275SW and 6945SW – 6948SW will not work with the modified removable seats, which will be launched throughout 2025. The timing of this launch will be dependent on consumption of current inventories, so it is likely that the removable seats for different line sizes will be launched at different times. The new versions for PNs 272SW – 275SW will be compatible and work with both the current and future versions of the regulator full port removable seats.
If you or anyone on your team currently uses or sells PNs 272SW, 273SW, 274SW, 275SW, 6945SW, 6946SW, 6947SW, or 6948SW, it will be necessary to replace these tools with the new socket-style version of PNs 272SW – 275SW. This recommendation is being made prior to the release of the new removable seats to ensure that end users have time to acquire the necessary tooling to be prepared for future repair work.
